Emmerdale star on future plans after filming Meena exit

Emmerdale star Paige Sandhu has discussed her future career plans ahead of Meena Jutla's on-screen departure.

The actress has already filmed her final scenes as evil Meena, who'll be sentenced for her many crimes in Monday night's episode (April 18).

In a new chat with Digital Spy and other press, Paige was asked whether she wants to continue playing bad characters after finishing up as Meena.

She confirmed: "I definitely want to continue to play baddies. I love baddies. I think they're just so much fun to play.

"I just want to continue playing characters that are wildly different than me – where you can have a lot of fun, the roles are really challenging and fulfilling, and it doesn't really matter whether they are a goodie or a baddie.

"Just as long as I feel connected to them, I can have fun, it's challenging and it's written really well and the storyline is amazing."

Quizzed on whether she has anything lined up, Paige said: "I do, actually. I am starting filming on something else, so that will be cool. Then there are other things that are potentials, so that's really exciting.

"They are all goodies, funnily enough!"

Paige, who has been playing Meena since 2020, also paid tribute to the Emmerdale team for making her feel so welcome during her time with the soap.

She recalled: "I remember coming out of my screen test, which I did with Rebecca [Sarker, who plays Manpreet] and Matthew [Wolfenden] who plays David.

"There was a whole bunch of crew there and I remember saying to my agent that it would be such a lovely place to work because everyone is so kind.

"I felt this energy of 'everyone's a family, everyone's very warm, everyone's very welcoming' and it'd be such a lovely place to work – and it has been.
