Emmerdale star Samantha Giles has given a health update on Twitter after a recent visit to hospital.

The actress, who plays Bernice Blackstock on the ITV soap, shared an update over the weekend thanking the NHS and "caring staff" for looking after her.

On Saturday (March 19), she wrote: "Huge thank you to all the wonderfully caring staff at @LiverpoolWomens for looking after me today. #NHS I'm fine and I'll be home soon."

In a follow-up tweet shared on Tuesday (March 22), Samantha shared that she was now home again and clarified that the hospital visit was a "planned trip" rather than a medical emergency.

"I'd be laughing if it wasn't so awful what stuff the papers make up!! I wasn't 'rushed into hospital' it was a planned visit," she wrote. "I am at home and working and most definitely not dead!! Thanks for your kind messages tweeters."

Samantha has been involved in a host of dramatic storylines including marrying Lawrence White who turned out to be secretly gay. She then had a fling with Andy Sugden, before he reunited with his wife.

In her time out of the soap, Samantha appeared on other TV series such as playing nurse Sally Boothe in Where the Heart Is and starring as Valerine Holden on Hollyoaks for four years from 2008 until 2012.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
