Emmerdale aftermath of Meena and Manpreet cliffhanger confirmed

Emmerdale has revealed some sinister scenes ahead for Meena Jutla and Manpreet Sharma after their big Christmas Day cliffhanger.

Meena (Paige Sandhu) and Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) were sent flying by a huge explosion at The Woolpack in the hour-long festive special.

The pub blast took place as Al Chapman's ruthless attempts to sabotage the business reached new heights, but his actions now look set to have huge consequences.

In upcoming scenes, Manpreet's on-off love interest Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) prays by her bedside at the hospital as she remains unconscious.

Manpreet's eyes flicker when she hears his voice – much to the concern of Meena, who's already awake.

Meena dreads the possibility of her sister waking up, fearing that all of her sinister secrets will finally be exposed.

Knowing this can't happen, Meena picks up a hypodermic needle and prepares to silence Manpreet forever. Just before she does, Manpreet's eyes open.

Manpreet pretends not to remember anything from recent days, so Meena breathes a sigh of relief and decides that her sister can live.

The next day, Meena takes Manpreet home. Unfortunately, the situation takes a turn again when Manpreet accidentally lets slip a piece of information that she shouldn't know about.

Meena insists on giving her sibling some sleeping pills, but Manpreet stays one step ahead by spitting them out as soon as her back is turned.

Manpreet calls 999 and is about to speak to the operator, but she panics when she finds Meena standing right in front of her.

Emmerdale bosses recently revealed that a new storyline will see Meena hold Manpreet captive, so there are clearly plenty more twists and turns ahead for this saga in the coming days.

Meanwhile, amid the other dramas, Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) is left heartbroken as Meena is claiming that she lost their baby in the explosion.

Unaware that Meena was never really pregnant, Billy lashes out at Al for being responsible for the tragedy.

Elsewhere, Marlon and Chas Dingle decide that it's time to accept Al's offer on the pub. Things continue to work in Al's favour when a fire investigator mistakenly concludes that the blaze was an accident.

Emmerdale continues on Boxing Day at 7pm on ITV, with an early release on the ITV Hub from 7am.
