Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's newly reunited couple Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) and Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) will have to face criticism over their upcoming engagement.

The on-again, off-again pair previously rekindled their romance after Billy's disastrous short-lived fling with the village's baddie Meena (Paige Sandhu). He then realised he'd rather be with Dawn, and the two reconnected.

Despite Meena's lies to keep Billy close (including a desperate fake pregnancy), he and Dawn officially got back together, with him also due to surprise Dawn on New Year's Eve with a marriage proposal.

In episodes airing in the new year, the pair share the happy news with their families, but the reactions aren't exactly as warm as they may have hoped for.

When Dawn's son Lucas (Noah Ryan Aspinall) accidentally finds out about the engagement, it prompts the couple to finally make the news public. Dawn tells her dad Will (Dean Andrews), though he worries that her engagement was just too hasty in the wake of their reconciliation.

Nonetheless, Dawn reassures him that she is truly in love with Billy and that he makes her feel happy and safe. Still, Will doesn't seem too sold on their big decision, though he too is set to pop the question over the festive period when he finally declares his love for Kim Tate (Claire King).

Will all that love in the air soften him up and will he finally give the young couple his blessing to move ahead with their wedding?

Emmerdale airs these scenes on Thursday, January 6 at 7pm and 8pm on ITV.
