Six years after she boarded a ferry to Ireland, Amy Wyatt is making her highly-anticipated return to Emmerdale complete with a brand new face. With actress Chelsea Halfpenny unable to reprise her role due to other commitments, newcomer Natalie Jamieson is becoming the second incarnation of Kerry's wayward daughter.
As part of Kez's mission to gain custody of Kyle, she heads off to Belfast this week and tries to track down Amy. But having not seen her daughter since 2013, and given their previous track record, we're not holding out hope for a stress-free reunion.
While we can't wait to touch base with Amy again and discover what she's been doing during her years in Irish exile, we wanted to go back even further in time.
Here are eight things you may have forgotten about the unruly teen who used to wreak havoc in the Dales...
1. She was trouble from the word go
With her fiery red hair and trademark heavy make up, Amy definitely stood out from the crowd. The character's memorable arrival in 2010 was a clear indication of the mayhem that was to follow. Viewers had their first glimpse of the gobby lass when her car broke down outside the village and Andy Sugden came to her rescue.
Crafty Amy then checked into the B&B, securing a discounted rate by claiming to be a trainee nurse. But her fibs quickly caught up with her when the police informed Val and Pollard that their new house guest was in fact a 16-year-old tearaway who'd stolen her foster parents' car.
What to Read Next
After being marched out of the Dales by her social worker, Amy returned for a second time and Victoria stowed her new pal away in the B&B cellar. It looked like history was going to repeat itself when Amy's hiding place was discovered but she was given a lifeline by Val, who took the fellow Geordie under her wing and allowed her to stay.
2. Val and Pollard fostered her
Having been taken into care at the age of eight, Amy was craving a regular home life. That was something she found with Val and Pollard but it wasn't all hugs and kisses. Scarred by her unconventional past and afraid of getting hurt by those she cared for, Amy repeatedly went off the rails, driving Eric crazy with her boozy binges and general bad behaviour.
Val was slightly more tolerant than her hubby, seeing a lot of herself in Amy, but even she had her patience severely tested. After serving Amy with an ultimatum to calm her wild ways, the couple finally gave what the teenager craved most – stability – and formally adopted her. That didn't entirely stop the naughtiness, though.
3. She liked an older man
Instead of chasing boys her own age, Ames had a thing for the more mature fella. After getting herself a job working in the village shop, Amy developed a huge crush on David Metcalfe. She tried to make a move on Eric's sexy son, only to be left red-faced when he rejected her advances.
Feeling like a right mug, Amy went all vengeful minx and blackmailed David by pretending she'd done the deed with him, only to later admit she'd made the whole thing up.
In a bid to make David jel, Amy even went as far as seducing village bad egg Cain Dingle in the back of his car. Her plan backfired and Amy was left with a lasting reminder of her romp with the mechanic…
4. She got pregnant with Cain's kid
After learning that Amy was barely legal, Cain made it clear he didn't want to go back for round two. Sadly for him, one go was all it had taken for Amy to get up the duff. Cain was adamant he didn't want to be a daddy again and cruelly demanded Amy have a termination. Amy later discovered it was too late to have an abortion, so decided to continue her pregnancy in secret.
That December, she gave birth to a baby boy in the church graveyard. Believing her bubba was dead, the distraught new mum left him in a phone box, only to later discover he was alive and well. Motherhood didn't come naturally to Amy, but with Val and Pollard's support, she initially agreed to keep her son and named him Kyle.
5. She gave her baby up for adoption
Only days after having decided to keep Kyle, Amy suffered a traumatic flashback when washing her boy, remembering a time when her mum dropped her in the bath. Having a change of heart, Amy in turn broke Val's when she announced she was giving Kyle up for adoption.
With Eric supporting Amy's choice, the Pollards' marriage was put under serious strain, eventually leading to the couple splitting up. Amy remained adamant she wasn't up to the job of raising little Kyle, and made the difficult decision to have him adopted by a married couple.
6. She reconnected with mum Kerry
Amy's backstory was revisited in 2013 when Emmerdale cast Laura Norton to play her estranged mum Kerry. After zero contact for years, mother and daughter came face to face again during a night out in Hotten, when Kerry caught her boyfriend Chris snogging another woman... Amy!
After clocking who the other was, and exchanging a few harsh words, Kerry later came to the village and was keen to make up for lost time with her offspring. The pair's relationship might have been bumpier than the Blackpool rollercoaster, but despite the explosive arguments, they eventually managed to form a close bond.
7. She kidnapped her own son
Still haunted by her decision to give up ickle Kyle, Amy was further devastated to hear his adoptive parents had died. At their funeral, Amy discovered that Kyle was living with his adoptive grandmother Joanie and concocted a plan to get close to her lad. She gained Joanie's trust by posing as a childcare professional, but when her cover was blown and Kyle nearly drowned while under her supervision, it was access denied for Amy.
Desperate to see her son and knowing her chances of winning custody were slim to none, Amy made the slightly insane decision to snatch Kyle and go on the run. With a little help from Kerry, she kidnapped the lad from playgroup and headed for the docks. But with Val, Eric, Joanie and Andy Sugden (Amy's boyfriend at the time) hot on their heels, the great escape was doomed for failure.
8. She escaped to Ireland
Despite getting all the way to the docks with kidnapped Kyle, Amy did not end up boarding the ferry with her toddler. In the end it was Cain who persuaded Amy a life on the run was not the answer, so she tearfully handed her son over.
Petrified of facing prison for what she'd done, Amy bought a one way ticket to Ireland to go and live with her aunt. Despite maintaining contact with her adoptive parents, not even news of her beloved Val's death in 2015 could convince Amy to come out of hiding. But nearly six years on, surely there's enough water under the bridge for Miss Wyatt to return home and remind us all what we've been missing...
