Emotions have been running high for EastEnders viewers this evening, as Albert Square was left reeling following Shakil's tragic death.

In a shocking series of episodes last week, Shakil and his friend Keegan Baker were brutally stabbed – and a series of fatal errors meant that although Keegan got help in time, it was too late for Shaki.

As Walford's residents mourned the teen, the standout star of tonight's (May 28) episode was of course Bonnie Langford as Shaki's grieving mum, Carmel – with fans voicing how powerful her performance was and how it resonated with their own experiences.

With accusations flying, it was Mick in the firing line – with Carmel taking out her frustrations on him for not noticing her son's injuries.

And despite Keegan also blaming him, many people's hearts still went out to the pub landlord.

Meanwhile, Shakil's death has meant that his dad Umar and brother Darius have finally made an appearance – and it was one of the arrivals that left some fans rather distracted.

Carmel will sink to rock bottom in tomorrow's episode, as her crippling sorrow pushes her to contemplate taking her own life.

EastEnders' hard-hitting knive crime storyline kicked off last week, and we reckon it was a return to form for the show – although still not without its problems.
