EastEnders' huge bus crash left Martin Fowler (James Bye) in a horrific predicament tonight (January 24), crushed under the double-decker that had collided with the bridge.

"I love you," he muttered to Stacey as they waited for emergency services, and things were not looking good.

The Square came together to save him, eventually lifting the bus off Martin in an extraordinary team effort, although he still looks to be fighting for his life.

That wasn't the end of the episode though, as a character that hadn't featured suddenly came to the forefront. Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) called for silence as a ringtone rang out, and he said the ominous final word: "Whitney."

Mick and Whitney (Shona McGarty) have of course been looking increasingly close recently, even infuriating some viewers with hints at a brand new affair storyline between them.

The episode did, however, bring good news for fans of Denise Fox (Diane Parish), who managed to get off the bus. Kim, having previously told Denise she was 'dead to her' over the adoption decision, was visibly rattled and relieved to see her safe.

As promised, Shirley, Tina and Sylvie Carter were safe on the Tube, and provided a little light relief in between the scenes of carnage on Albert Square.

We'll have to wait to find out what happens to Whitney and Martin - neither were in the ten characters that EastEnders promised were safe earlier today - when EastEnders continues on Thursday (January 26) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
