EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has revealed that the cast member playing Lucy Beale's killer will be told the truth in January.

Only a small handful of the soap's senior team are currently aware of the whodunit storyline's conclusion, which will be broadcast as part of a special 'live week' to mark the show's 30th anniversary in February.

When Archie Mitchell's killer was revealed as Stacey Branning in the 25th anniversary live special, actress Lacey Turner was only told minutes before performing the reveal scene. However, this time it has been decided that the actor or actress in question will have more time to prepare.

Treadwell-Collins told The Mirror: "The killer doesn't know who they are yet, that's the truth. But they will be told about a month before."

EastEnders' birthday week will include a 30-minute live episode, as well as live elements to all of the other episodes airing that week. Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale, was the first cast member to be told this news.

Treadwell-Collins added: "I told Adam first because one of the main storylines will be the Lucy Beale murder reveal. I had to tell Adam and the Beales first, I needed to check they were on board - if Adam said no, we couldn't have done it."

Lucy Beale was killed off back in April after Hetti Bywater spent two years in the role.
