EastEnders spoilers follow.
EastEnders has released the first look at the aftermath of Mick Carter’s tragic cliffhanger.
In Sunday’s Christmas Day episode, Mick (Danny Dyer) was last seen diving underwater to rescue Linda (Kellie Bright) after their car had plummeted into the sea following a chase with Janine.
Unbeknownst to him, Linda had already managed to pull herself from the wreckage, leaving Mick’s fate all the more tragic as the screen faded to black.

Meanwhile, Janine (Charlie Brooks) is pictured alongside Ricky in a distressed state as she is forced to confront the consequences of her actions; the chase resulted from an ongoing act of deception where she framed Linda for a prior car crash.
With the episode marking Brooks’ final appearance as Janine, viewers will be eager to see if the character finally gets her comeuppance.

Speaking about Mick’s tragic demise, executive producer Chris Clenshaw revealed to Digital Spy and other media that Dyer originally planned to depart the soap earlier, but agreed to stay on in order to give Mick a fitting send-off.
“Mick Carter’s not the kind of character who goes out in the back of a black cab, is he?” said Clenshaw. “I’m very grateful to Danny for staying a little longer and giving us a Christmas Day exit, because what’s really important is that we give the audience big drama on Christmas Day – there’s nothing bigger than Mick’s exit.”
He also teased the possibility of some closure regarding Mick’s departure, saying: “You’ll have to wait and see. It’s EastEnders so anything could happen.”
EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
