Ahead of these scenes airing, Charlie Brooks has admitted that Janine is likely underestimating Shirley's efforts to expose her.

"I think Janine is oblivious to the actual extent of it, and Shirley thinks that she's having an affair," she said. "I don't think Janine knows that, and that comes as a bit of a surprise. But she's almost amused by Shirley because she doesn't think that anyone's got anything on her.

"It's only Scarlett, at this point, who could really mess it all up. I think Janine is almost weary and slightly amused by Shirley."

Janine is lost in her own world as she puts the finishing touches to her wedding, including finalising plans for a grand wedding dress.

"It's gorgeous. It's so nice," Charlie said. "I had loads of very nice dresses to choose from. Her wedding dress?

"She's gone all white, she's gone big, she's got her lovely little bump, so she's radiating, she's glowing in her pregnancy. She's going for gold with the dress."

The big day could end up in tears when Janine discovers that her brother Ricky Butcher has turned up without Mick.

"She's panicking. Janine feels so hard done by all of the time," Charlie said. "In her head, people screw her over all of the time, and none of it is her fault. She can't see her part in anything. There's definitely a lack of self-awareness. But I think it's just panic, initially."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
