Suki Panesar has faced the consequences for confessing her own culpability in son Jags' death in EastEnders.

A gripping episode aired Thursday night (July 21) in the aftermath of Ben Mitchell confessing to the Panesar family that he betrayed them after they'd begged him to help Jags in prison.

Ben had agreed to help with protection for Jags behind bars, but secretly called off his men shortly before Jags was brutally murdered in prison.

Kheerat became violent knowing that Ben may have inadvertently contributed to his brother's death, as he began viciously beating his business partner while the other Panesars looked on.

The only Panesar concerned for Ben was matriarch Suki because she has grappled with her own feelings of guilt over the way Jags died.

Suki stitched up her son Jags to serve jail time even though it was Vinny who had committed a crime because she didn't approve of Jags' relationship with Habiba.

With Suki and Stacey Slater trying to stop Kheerat's beating, they were horrified as Ash and Vinny encouraged their brother to continue taking revenge on their behalf.

Suki finally intervened as the life drained out of Ben's body, confessing to her family that she is responsible for orchestrating Jags' imprisonment in the first place.

In the chaos, Stacey was able to rush Ben away to Kathy's for help. Meanwhile, the Panesar children struggled with the realisation that their own mother sent down their brother for a crime he didn't even commit.

Suki tried to make amends, but Kheerat stopped her cold, telling her that a mother could never do what she'd done to her own children. This was the final straw – the Panesars are disowning Suki!

"We're done, mum," Kheerat insisted as Vinny nodded along.
