EastEnders has unveiled a special behind-the-scenes look at Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall visiting the cast for a Platinum Jubilee episode.

Earlier today, the soap shared the brand new footage on Twitter, showing Charles and Camilla meeting the soap's cast and crew.

The soap accompanied the video with a tweet, reading: "Take a look behind the scenes as Albert Square celebrates the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, on the day The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall made a very special visit to EastEnders meeting both our cast and crew.”

In the episode, which aired Thursday, Patrick (Rudolph Walker) even managed to tempt Charles and Camilla to a "tipple", which cued up Charles' witty comment: "I thought you'd never ask."

The royal couple filmed these scenes in March when they paid a visit to the brand new Elstree filming set to meet the cast and crew of the long-running BBC soap.

Chris Clenshaw, executive producer, said: "We are truly honoured to have both of the royals to appear in the special episode."

He drew particular attention to Linda Carter actress Kellie Bright, who he said was "naturally in her element and giddy". However, he did acknowledge that "for all of us at Eastenders, it was an extremely special day".

This is not the first time Eastenders has had a royal visit. In 2001, the Queen went to see the Eastenders legend Dame Barbara Windsor, who played Peggy Mitchell, on the soap's set. The Queen went into the Queen Vic, even heading behind the bar, and went for a walk through the street market, meeting stars of the show.

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
