EastEnders star Gurlaine Kaur Garcha has confirmed that she has returned to the BBC One soap.

Kaur Garcha's character Ash Panesar departed Walford in a storyline in early January, after she was injured in a homophobic attack from Neil's hate group and later realised that mum Suki was never going to accept her for who she is.

Her exit was left open-ended, with Digital Spy understanding at the time that the actress was just going to be taking a break from filming.

Now Kaur Garcha has uploaded a photo of herself alongside Suki star Balvinder Sopal to her Instagram, writing "together again". We can confirm that she is indeed back on set and filming new episodes.

Interestingly, before landing the role of Ash, Kaur Garcha appeared in Doctors and Holby City and actually came very close to nabbing a major role in Coronation Street.

"I ended up getting to the last two for a role in Corrie and I didn't get it," she recalled last year. "It was for the role of Rana. I auditioned for the role and made it to the screen test and went on.

"When I didn't get it, I thought, 'Forget [producing]! I need to just focus on acting.'"

Ash's ex-girlfriend Iqra Ahmed left the soap at the start of the year as well, with actress Priya Davdra confirming that she has wrapped up her time in Albert Square for good (or at least for the forseeable future).

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and is available to catch up on via BBC iPlayer.
