EastEnders viewers have praised Shona McGarty following Whitney Dean's singing debut.

The BBC One soap continued Whitney's music storyline during tonight's episode, which started when Terry 'Rocky' Cant (Brian Conley) discovered her hidden singing talent over the summer.

In Monday's (August 23) episode, Whitney was nervous ahead of a charity gig that Rocky had set up for her at the Vic.

Whit was full of nerves as she stepped up to the microphone, but her confidence grew as she belted out a powerful cover of Leona Lewis's hit song 'Homeless'.

Her friends and loved ones — Tiffany Butcher, Sonia Fowler, the Beales and the Carters — were simply amazed by her incredible performance and rallied around her.

Viewers were also hugely impressed with Shona McGarty's beautiful voice, with one writing: "Shona McGarty who plays Whitney really does have a beautiful voice, woman of many talents."

"Wow @ShonaBM what a voice you have," another wrote, while a third added: "@ShonaBM going from doing TikToks of her singing to singing on EastEnders! the confidence"

McGarty has long had a passion for music, with incorrect rumours even floating around a few years ago that she would quit EastEnders to devote herself to a pop career.

She notably has performed on Children in Need in the past, and appeared on the charity Christmas single 'Rock With Rudolph' to raise money for the Great Ormond Street Hospital.

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
