Bernadette Taylor's hopes of becoming Rainie and Stuart Highway's surrogate are to be thrown into doubt in EastEnders, when Bernadette and Rainie receive some bad news.
In scenes set to air next week, Rainie moves forward with Bernadette's offer to act as a surrogate for her and Stuart, and the pair go to a doctor's appointment together.

After the doctor explains a few factors that could lead to complications, Bernadette desperately tries to convince a worried Rainie that everything will be fine.
Aware that she and Stuart only have one chance to have a baby, will Rainie give in to Bernadette – or will the doctor's news derail both Rainie and Bernie's plans?
Speaking about her character's offer of becoming a surrogate, Clair Norris recently admitted that Bernie is taking "it upon herself to get money" for the Taylors, as their financial woes continue.

"Even though she works at the call centre, it's just not enough, so she tries to find another way," she explained.
"She decides that this will be the best way to get a lot of money that could change the Taylors' lifestyle and living conditions, that's why she goes to [Rainie and Stuart] and wants to be their surrogate."
Clair added that Bernadette sees "the good" in Rainie and Stuart, and isn't pursuing the surrogacy route for entirely selfish reasons.
"Bernie sees how determined they are to find the right surrogate so she knows that this is really important to them and they are not playing games," she said.
