Unfortunately, Max's proposition couldn't come at a worse time for Linda, who is still secretly desperate to make her marriage to Mick work.
Linda tries to explain to Mick how she's been feeling, but is forced to up the ante when he doesn't respond.
Grabbing some whiskey, Linda taunts Mick with the bottle – desperate for him to fight for her.
Sadly, it seems that Mick will be continuing to keep Linda in the dark about what's really going on in the lead-up to Christmas, as he turns to Katy once again.
As Mick confides in Katy, she manipulates the situation by pinning all the blame on Linda.
With Mick slipping further and further away from her, Linda faces more pressure from Max after Christmas as the situation starts to become very real.
While the residents of Walford are preparing to welcome in the New Year, things reach breaking point for the Carters.
Consumed with emotions about his past, Mick finds himself struggling to cope with the enormity of the situation.
By the end of the week, Linda is planning ahead for her future, but is Mick part of it? Or will she leave with Max?
That remains to be seen, but as Mick battles with his past demons, Linda will seal her fate and learn some shocking truths along the way...
Speaking about Linda's reaction to Max's offer, Kellie Bright – who plays her – said: "She's really reluctant to take the next step with him. She thinks it's way too much, too soon.
"She's not at all in that place. I think she feels like she's on a rollercoaster with Max, and she doesn't really know how to get off it, or how to slow it down. This is not her thing. Linda Carter has only ever loved one man. She's only ever been with one man and so it is very, very out of character.
"She is not well versed in these sorts of things, she's really just bumbling along, and taking it all day by day. The whole way through she's desperate for Mick to just turn around and go – what the hell are you doing? I want you back. But he doesn't do any of that.
"I think that's what's so hard. In the end she thinks what am I waiting for? He doesn't want me."
EastEnders airs these scenes on Tuesday, December 22, Thursday, December 24 and Friday, January 1 on BBC One.
