EastEnders spoilers follow.

Martin Fowler and Ruby Allen have tied the knot in a surprising turn of events on EastEnders.

The last few months have seen the two grow increasingly close, even as Martin's (James Bye) ex-wife Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) made her return to the Square for revenge against Ruby (Louisa Lytton).

In Monday's episode (October 12), Jean (Gillian Wright) and Kat (Jessie Wallace) were stunned to find out on social media that Ruby and Martin had actually tied the knot!

But their efforts didn't pay off in the end because Stacey was among the first to confront Martin when he arrived back on the Square with his new bride.

Stacey was under the impression that Martin was still in love with her, as she'd found out that he lied about sleeping with Sonia in order to keep her away from the Square… and safe from the Mitchells.

"I just wish you'd told me. You could have saved us both a lot of wasted time," Stacey told him.

Just as Stacey dismissed Martin's relationship as "a little thing" and insisted she'd always be "on the same page" as her ex, he explained: "It's all about time, Stacey."

Ruby then arrived on the scene with a cheeky grin, gloating: "You need to carry me over the threshold!"

In her final appearance of the episode, a heartbroken Stacey was left speechless over the news…
