EastEnders legend Anita Dobson has revealed one of the secrets behind this week's classic episode.

Tuesday marked the first time the BBC One soap took a look back at some of the most memorable moments in its history, as EastEnders takes a break until it can bank enough new episodes.

The BBC picked a belter of a classic episode to start with, flashing back to the '80s as Angie Watts confronted her husband Den (Leslie Grantham) about his cheating in a memorable two-hander from 1986.

Dobson looked back on that classic episode during an appearance on The One Show tonight (June 23), revealing that the infamous row between Den and Angie over his cheating was filmed in just one take.

"I remember, Leslie said to me before we actually recorded it and we were doing the actual scene, he said, 'What do you reckon? How many takes?' I went, 'Maybe two? Maybe more if we're lucky'," she remembered.

"He went, 'No, one.' I went, 'You think?'... We started the scene and in the middle of it, he picked up the table and threw it against the wall and it burst into a thousand pieces. He looked at me and he went, 'One take'."

EastEnders producers apparently trusted Dobson and Grantham so much that they handpicked them for this early example of the soap's two-hander format.

"We knew each other so well. It was almost symbiotic," she remembered. "He used to say to me, 'Your mouth shuts, mine opens. My mouth shuts, yours opens.' It was true! You would never know if anything went wrong.

"Always, one of us would pick the other one up and that's what happened in that two-hander."

The classic episodes continue next week when the soap moves forward in time to 1994 for the infamous Sharongate storyline, as Sharon Watts' affair with Phil is revealed to his brother Grant.

First, Secrets from the Square continues next Monday (June 29) at 8pm on BBC One as Stacey Dooley chats to original cast members Letitia Dean and Adam Woodyatt.
