EastEnders spoilers follow.
EastEnders will kick off a big new story for Sonia Fowler next week, just before the show goes off air.
The BBC soap will be delving into Sonia's backstory in future scenes, when she makes the big decision to explore her past.
What to Read Next
Next week's scenes will see a lonely Sonia realise she needs to make some changes in her life as she struggles with the absence of her teenage daughter Bex.
Bex left Walford to go travelling earlier in the year, but her parents Martin and Sonia initially assumed it would only be a matter of time until she returned home.
However, Jasmine Armfield – who plays her – has left the show, meaning it's unlikely that we will be seeing Bex again any time soon.
As Sonia continues to miss Bex, next Monday's episode will see her decide to seek company elsewhere.
Desperate for a new connection, Sonia decides to search for her long-lost father, but fans will face a lengthy wait to see what happens next.
That's because EastEnders will be going off air after Tuesday, June 16 when the show runs out of new episodes to screen, having been unable to film since March.
As we all know, EastEnders – along with other UK soaps and productions – was forced to halt filming in mid-March amid the coronavirus pandemic, and has been running on a reduced schedule ever since.
During the break, the show's new series EastEnders: Secrets of the Square will be airing every Monday, offering viewers a sneak peek into life behind the scenes.
On Tuesday evenings, fans can continue to reminisce with a selection of iconic episodes airing each week.
EastEnders airs these scenes on Tuesday, June 16 in the show's final episode before taking a break over the summer.
