EastEnders star Davood Ghadami has opened up about his character Kush Kazemi's shock decision over Jean Slater.

In scenes airing this week, Kush takes action after discovering Jean hasn't been taking her medication, which is having a worrying effect on her behaviour.

Kush and Shirley Carter join forces over the situation, though things take a turn for the worse next week when Jean suffers a seizure.

Speaking about Kush taking drastic action, Davood admitted: "Under normal circumstances Kush wouldn't ever act the way he does – but these aren't ordinary circumstances as things are pretty extraordinary in the Slater house at the moment.

"He hasn't got the support that he would like from everybody, Mo isn't being very responsive when he airs his concerns either."

He continued: "He can see things only getting worse, so feels like he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands as a unilateral attempt at trying to keep the family stable.

"If Jean gets worse, which is likely as she's been missing her medication, Kush has absolutely no idea how bad it might get and he doesn't want to risk it. There's too much going on and he's desperate so he thinks he's making the right decision in the moment."

Davood added of the constant battle with Jean: "His heart is very much in the right place, he's always trying to do what’s right so when things start to go wrong, one thing after the other, it's very difficult for Kush.

"Being in a house with 5 kids and having all the responsibility dumped on him is a struggle. He has to look out for Mo, keep an eye on Jean plus take care of the kids – he’s just taking it day by day.

"He can't let everything go to pieces, he has built up a really nice family relationship with everyone and he wants to keep the family unit strong.

"Kush wants to prove to himself, as much as anybody else, that he can be the man of the house. That's the ultimate test… trying to keep the Slater house together. I don't think any man has actually succeeded in that!"
