Later, Jean has another outburst in which she berates Shirley – before storming off.

However, when a concerned Tina and Shirley finally track Jean down, they are alarmed to find her having a seizure. Will Jean be okay?

Discussing Kush's struggles with Jean, Davood Ghadami – who plays him – said: "His heart is very much in the right place, he's always trying to do what's right so when things start to go wrong, one thing after the other, it's very difficult for Kush.

"Being in a house with five kids and having all the responsibility dumped on him is a struggle. He has to look out for Mo, keep a eye on Jean plus take care of the kids – he's just taking it day by day."

He added: "He can't let everything go to pieces, he has built up a really nice family relationship with everyone and he wants to keep the family unit strong.

"Kush wants to prove to himself, as much as anybody else, that he can be the man of the house. That's the ultimate test... trying to keep the Slater house together. I don't think any man has actually succeeded in that!"

EastEnders airs these scenes on Monday, May 11 and Tuesday, May 12 on BBC One.
