EastEnders boss Jon Sen has given an update amid the coronavirus pandemic, reassuring fans that the team are still working on storylines.

The BBC soap shut down filming following the spread of the coronavirus in the UK, but while the sets are closed, work behind the scenes continues to happen.

"Thank for all your messages," Sen posted on Twitter.

"Just to let you know that after the news last week that we are postponing filming, we are still working hard behind the scenes planning stories for when we return."

Sen's update comes after the BBC cut the number of weekly episodes from four to two, with the show only airing on Mondays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 7.30pm for the time being.

"We have... taken the decision to reduce the amount of episodes we broadcast each week to two, so that we can ensure the audience can continue to enjoy EastEnders in their homes for as long as possible," the BBC said last week.

The other BBC continuing dramas, such as Holby City, Casualty, and Doctors, have also suspended filming.

TV channels in the UK have trimmed the number of weekly episodes for Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, Neighbours and Home and Away as well, to keep them on television for longer.

EastEnders airs on BBC One.
