Sonia Fowler has resorted to stealing from her step-grandmother Dot Cotton in EastEnders, following a blackmail threat.
The soap revisited a plot development from Christmas, where Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) was able to cover up stealing money from Dot's (June Brown) bank account by convincing her hackers were to blame.
In Thursday's episode (January 16), Sonia faced new pressure at the hospital from George — the man who was injured by Martin (James Bye) in the hit-and-run over Christmas.

George has already demanded £10,000 from Sonia in exchange for keeping his mouth shut about Martin being behind the wheel, and in the latest instalment, he once again ratcheted up the pressure.
"If I don't get that money soon, I'm gonna have to get myself a lawyer and that'll only end up involving the police," he threatened. "I suppose I'll have to tell them everything. Who wants that, eh?"

Though Sonia tried her best to relish in her newfound romantic bliss with Martin, the blackmail threat kept ticking away in the back of her mind.
With Martin completely oblivious to George's money demand, Sonia ultimately made a desperate and shocking decision in order to pay him off once and for all.

She used one of Dot's personal cheque book to write herself a cheque for the remaining £8,000 she owed — and then convinced Dot to go visit Charlie for a while. Will she be able to get away with her theft this time?
