Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod has spoken about Daniel Osbourne's future with actor Rob Mallard.

Chatting to Digital Spy, Mallard revealed that the soap's new boss wants to develop Daniel's storyline "over the next year or so" – and the actor noted there's "probably always room for Barlows".

Explaining how he's finding life working with MacLeod on Corrie, Mallard said: "Amazing. His stories haven't come in on screen yet but I had a meeting with him when he first started and he basically explained what he wanted to do over the next year or so with the character.

"Kate Oates [the soap's former producer] brought me in and then put me and Katie [McGlynn, who plays Sinead Tinker] together, gave me brilliant stories that we're still playing out now – next week's episodes are Kate's episodes – and it's not going to change because the producer has changed."

And Mallard's time on the Weatherfield cobbles doesn't look to be anywhere near its end, with the actor teasing: "Iain is picking up the same baton and, at least with our relationship, saying, 'We've still got good things in store for you'."
