Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has hit back at the show's critics following their Best Soap triumph at last night's (March 20) RTS Awards.
This week, it was revealed that Corrie had generated more than 100 complaints about David Platt's male rape storyline, while last year's Pat Phelan double murder was cleared after a whopping 541 complaints to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom.
It's even led to people like Sir Michael Parkinson and Fern Britton criticising the show and Cleaver couldn't resist a mic drop moment after their win.
"I think what's really lovely is that we're bombarded every day with 'our storylines are too dark' or 'what's going on in soap?'. Well, there's your answers guys," she noted, with Corrie boss Kate Oates adding: "What she said."
Cleaver joins the likes of Oates, Kym Marsh and Corrie advisor Sam Thompson in defending the show from its critics.
She will also be centre stage next week as her character Eileen Grimshaw will finally discover the shocking truth about her husband Pat Phelan, with next week's episodes seeing him make a hasty exit from the cobbles before the two bodies are found at the mill site.
