Coronation Street has parted ways with Bruno Langley, it has been confirmed.

A representative for the soap said that the actor, who has played character Todd Grimshaw on-and-off since 2001, is "no longer contracted to the show".

Bruno Langley also confirmed the news in a statement to Digital Spy, saying it had been an "absolute honour" to be a part of the soap.

"Sadly, I will no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream," the statement read.

"Playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since I was 17 years old has been a huge part of my life, and an absolute honour.

"I would like to thank all of my friends who work on the show for their love, friendship and support during this extremely difficult period.

"I will make a further statement in due course, and when I am able to do so."

A source told us that Langley's "contract ended on October 26 following an internal inquiry".

"This inquiry was separate to any police investigation and was independent of any inquiries they are making," they added.

There have been reports recently that the actor is facing an allegation of sexual assault against a woman in a nightclub. Langley has denied the claims.

Langley first appeared on Coronation Street in 2001, with Todd being the show's first openly gay character. He left in 2004, later making brief returns before he rejoined as a regular character in 2013.

The actor signed a new 12-month contract with Coronation Street last year, following the recent on-screen departure of Todd's brother Jason (Ryan Thomas).

"Just doing those scenes where Jason is leaving, they were so hard to do," Bruno said at the time.

"We grew up together. He was 16 when he joined the show, I was 17. So it was really hard to hold back the tears."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
