Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has had major surgery on his leg.

The actor, who plays Tyrone Dobbs on the soap, took to Instagram to reveal that he underwent ACL reconstruction surgery last Friday (November 3).

The post featured a picture of Halsall smiling with his thumbs up as he begins recovery at home. "Well, On Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. I have been told the surgery went really well," he wrote.

"I know I have a long 9-12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I'm sure with the support of family & friends I'll get there."

He thanked the hospital staff that looked after him following the procedure, as well as girlfriend and former Corrie co-star Tisha Merry. "Thank you to the amazing! Staff at Oaklands xx .. and also Thanks to my very own nurse Ratched @missdrewmerry93," he added, with a winking emoji.

Coronation Street stars flooded the post with get well soon comments. "Rest. Up. holler if you need some grapes," wrote Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor, while Halsall's on-screen mum Claire Sweeney added: "This is great news, glad it was a success xxxx"

Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby, commented: "Oh Al hope you're ok love! We'll all look after you in weatherfield," with an added kiss emoji. Former Cobbles star Ryan Thomas shared a love heart emoji, with Craig Tinker actor Colson Smith adding, "Get that rested up for Christmas Party," with a party popper emoji.

Ahead of his surgery, Halsall recently revealed a huge twist on the horizon for his character that involves his on-screen grandmother Evelyn. Since Tyrone was reunited with his estranged mother Cassie, he's grown apart from Evelyn — with trouble not far away.

"Although Evelyn keeps saying Cassie's going to bring problems to the door, Evelyn is about to do something which causes them all huge problems," he told Inside Soap. "And Tyrone then tries to pick up the pieces of the family."
