Bernie Winter is in big trouble in Coronation Street following drama with lookalike Fern, who has been using her resemblance to Bernie to her advantage – and she will soon find some valued support.

Recently, Fern got a job cleaning at a jewellery store. But she used Bernie's name and dressed up like her on the first day – and it did not take her long to rob the place and do a runner.

With Bernie's name and likeness both at the scene, she's having a hard time convincing the police that she had nothing to do with it. But she comes across a glimmer of hope in episodes to air on ITV next week.

When Bernie receives a letter that has the date of her plea hearing on it, she decides to take matters into her own hands by using her and Fern's shared likeness to her advantage.

Before Bernie leaves though, she's approached by a man named Howard – and while she tries to make out that she is Fern, that plan doesn't work out when Howard reveals that he's Fern's ex-husband.

Putting all of her cards on the table, Bernie explains the situation and tells him that Fern has framed her for a robbery.

This comes as no surprise to Howard, who tells Bernie that Fern is indeed a con artist. But will he agree to help Bernie when she pleads with him to help her get out of the mess she's in?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
