Following her departure from Coronation Street, Alexandra Mardell has announced that she's been cast in a new BBC radio comedy called No Platformed.

The actress shared the news in a series of behind-the-scenes photos, including some of herself in the recording booth, on social media.

She captioned the Instagram post: "Did a thing! A BBC Radio 4 thing! If you fancy a listen – No Platformed – Starts tomorrow on BBC Radio 4 – 11pm – the 1st of 4 weekly eps or catch up on BBC Sounds."

The four-part series premieres today (June 15), and Mardell will be playing the role of Clara, and the cast also includes Outnumbered's Hugh Dennis and Outlander's Tim Downie.

The official synopsis reads: "Three members of staff, one dysfunctional railway station, zero passengers. Brand new comedy that drives a train through sitcom-land via a platform crowded with big name cameos, absurd goings-on, and very silly jokes."

After achieving her goal of being cast on Corrie, Alexandra told Digital Spy that the decision to leave the soap was a difficult one, but ultimately the best for her career.

"It was really difficult, even now I'm like 'What have I done?'" she said. "I know it's right for me but I can see so easily how people stay there for 20, 60 years, because it is such an amazing place to work.

"But I just wanted to play another character. As much as I've got to explore Emma in lots of different ways, there's some other people I want to try and give a go as well."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
