Coronation Street's Summer Spellman will spark new fears next week, as her friend Amy Barlow starts to suspect that she might have an eating disorder.

Summer (Harriet Bibby) has been secretly battling an eating disorder for several months and her anxiety over her upcoming exams has caused her struggles to intensify, as she stresses over her revision.

In new scenes airing next week, Summer's guardian Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) is concerned to realise that Summer has been up all night revising in a desperate attempt to feel as prepared as possible for her exams.

Billy warns her that she will burn herself out and, following Summer's diabetes diagnosis last year, this could have serious consequences as her blood sugars could become unstable.

Summer continues to resist any attempts to get her to take a break from studying and when Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain), who has already expressed his concerns about Summer's health, calls round to see her, she sends him packing.

Billy then reminds her that she has promised to help out at the church, but Summer is adamant that she doesn't have time to get involved, causing Billy's worries about her health to intensify.

When Billy sees Amy (Elle Mulvaney), she promises that she will try and speak to Summer, too.

Later in the week, Amy calls for Summer and manages to persuade her to take a break and come out for a quick coffee with her.

When Roy Cropper (David Neilson) gives the pair some bacon sandwiches on the house, Summer pretends to be grateful for the gesture and the girls take them back to Summer's flat to eat.

After Amy leaves, Summer heads to the bathroom. But when Amy unexpectedly returns to pick up her forgotten phone, she is shocked to hear Summer retching in the bathroom.

Summer denies that she has been making herself sick, but Amy isn't convinced and she threatens to speak to Billy about what she's heard.

Clearly stressed, Summer begs her not to say anything and promises that it will never happen again.

Will Summer be able to get the help that she needs?

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Wednesday, April 13 and Friday, April 15 at 8pm on ITV.
