Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell on Emma Brooker return

She hasn't even left yet and there's already talk about her returning.

Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell is due to be packing up her things and leaving the Cobbles next week but hopes her character Emma Brooker will return one day.

Speaking to Digital Spy and others, Alexandra admitted she can "see how people stay there for so long" and is glad the door is being left open for her to maybe one day return.

"I've definitely not drawn a line under it," she said. "I can see how people stay there for so long. I don't know what the future holds but I'm just so glad that Emma is still alive, and hopefully, she remains alive."

The actress, who has played Emma for four years, said she would be interested to see what the character is like a few years down the line.

"It would be so interesting to see how life experiences had changed her off-screen," Alexandra admitted.

"It would be nice to see a more serious side and a more grown-up Emma but there's always got to be those little ditzy bits that come back, you can't have Emma and not have these silly one-liners, there's always got to be an element of that."

Alexandra Mardell announced her departure from Corrie in February.

Speaking at the time, she explained: "Playing Emma, on the most iconic street there is, has been the best experience of my life. Four years have gone so fast.

"Compared to other cast members I still feel like a newbie, which makes my decision to leave all the more difficult. But I feel it's the right time for me.

"I can't thank everyone at Coronation Street enough for welcoming me and trusting me to tell so many wonderful and heartfelt stories."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
