Coronation Street has confirmed that Emma Brooker's final scenes will air next week.

The popular character is bowing out from Weatherfield as the ongoing storyline surrounding Ted Spear's death finally comes to a head.

What to Read Next

Viewers have recently seen Emma strike up a romantic connection with newcomer Jon Spear, while hiding the fact that she was involved in his grandfather's death.

Emma has also tried to make sure that her friends Faye Windass and Craig Tinker, who are also both embroiled in the Ted cover-up, don't find out about her dating Jon.

Next week, Emma receives a surprise as Jon shares his plans to open a beach bar in Australia. She realises that she visited the same beach as a child.

Taking it as a sign, Jon suggests that Emma should move to Australia with him. She agrees to think about the idea.

Later, Jon arrives back at Emma, Faye and Craig's flat after forgetting his phone.

This time, Faye and Craig are both home. Faye stares at Jon in utter shock, while it's also possible that Jon and Craig will recognise each other from their brief meeting at Ted's flat.

Later in the week, a suspicious Jon demands answers from both Emma and Faye.

Faye decides that it's time to be honest, so she tells Jon that they're both responsible for his grandfather's death.

Once Jon is in the know, Emma's days on the cobbles are numbered as her final scenes will air on Friday, April 8.

Will she find true love and forgiveness, go on the run, or end up doing time for the crime?

Alexandra Mardell, who plays Emma, announced her departure from Coronation Street in February.

Speaking at the time, she explained: "Playing Emma, on the most iconic street there is, has been the best experience of my life. Four years have gone so fast.

"Compared to other cast members I still feel like a newbie, which makes my decision to leave all the more difficult. But I feel it's the right time for me.

"I can't thank everyone at Coronation Street enough for welcoming me and trusting me to tell so many wonderful and heartfelt stories."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
