Coronation Street's Rebecca Ryan on future plans after Lydia exit

Following her exit from the cobbles this week, Coronation Street star Rebecca Ryan has revealed her career ambitions for the future.

The actress's final scenes as Lydia Chambers came amid the character's plotline seeking revenge on Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) by trying to destroy his relationship with Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien).

Rebecca has now spoken about where she would like to go next, admitting she'd be keen to do a costume drama akin to Bridgerton, or something gritty.

"I'd love to do a period piece, I've always wanted to do something like Downton Abbey, or Bridgerton," she told OK!. "Something like that would be incredible. I'd love all of that, it would be amazing."

The star also admitted she is a big fan of Succession, adding: "I also love all the big dramas, like Succession. I think I'll go as far as to say it's the best thing I've ever watched. I just love it, so something like that would be incredible. A good, gritty drama."

Well, with new seasons of both shows on the horizon, could we see Rebecca crossing paths with the Bridgerton and Roy families in the future?

The star's final scenes this week on Corrie saw Adam – who was in hospital after Lydia pushed him over a ledge – ask for her forgiveness after forcing her to get an abortion when she was 19.

However, after Lydia confessed everything about her plans to drive a wedge between the couple, Sarah called the police, leading to her arrest – though Adam told the authorities that she was innocent.

Sharing a message after her departure, Rebecca said on Instagram: "That's Lydia over and out!! I have had the most amazing time on the cobbles and it's an experience that I will never forget!!

"Thank you so much for all the lovely comments, I see them all and I appreciate every single one! Bye Lydia it's been a blast."
