Coronation Street's Adam Barlow suffered a series of setbacks in tonight's double-bill, as the ITV soap kicked off a sinister stalker storyline involving the fictional solicitor.

In the first episode of the night (February 7), Adam was shocked to discover that his car windscreen had been smashed. Fuming, and assuming that Jeremy Bremner was behind the vandalism, Adam (Sam Robertson) tracked him down at work and confronted him.

While he admitted to keying Adam's car, Jeremy was adamant that he wasn't involved in the graffiti or the windscreen – and Adam wasn't about to question his version of events when two of Jeremy's "heavies" showed up.

Back at the office, Adam's worried wife Sarah fretted to Imran, as she wondered whether Adam may have unnecessarily provoked Jeremy further. Either way, her partner proved to be in trouble when armed police randomly raided his work during a client meeting, leaving them all stunned.

In the second instalment, the officers informed Adam and Imran (Charlie de Melo) that they had received a tip-off that suggested that there was a firearm on the premises. Then, they proceeded to turn the place upside down, but found no weapon.

"You've got the wrong guys!" Adam urged, as Imran pleaded: "We don't have any guns!"

Despite the lack of findings and the lawyers' protestations, the client, Mr Bosgrave, informed Adam and Imran that he'll be taking his business elsewhere – something that the latter and Sarah went on to blame Adam for, arguing that it was probably Jeremy who contacted the coppers with the false information.

"You had to go and threaten that guy, didn't you?" Imran shouted. "Now, the best bit of business we've had in years? Gone."

Angry, Adam informed Sarah that the police couldn't pin anything on Jeremy, before receiving a silent phone call. Who was it on the other end?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm on ITV.
