Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has revealed Todd Grimshaw's shock new plan to break up Billy and Paul.

As part of his Christmas storyline, Todd will be stepping up his efforts to sabotage the couple in an attempt to reunite with Billy Mayhew.

We saw the start of that in tonight's hour-long episode (December 18) when Todd received an email from the helpline inviting him in for a chat, with Paul offering to accompany him.

In the helpline centre, Paul took a call from a very distressed kid called Will, who begged for his personal phone number.

Feeling pressured to help, and seeing a younger version of himself in Will, Paul eventually caved and gave the kid his number.

Clocking their exchange, Todd later quizzed Paul about it. When Paul revealed that he'd broken the helpline's rules and given his number away, Todd tried to hide his delight.

Paul later calls Will back on his own phone and, under pressure, agreed to meet up with him, knowing he was getting in far too deep.

When the pair eventually met, Paul explained to Will that he can't get personally involved with his problems, because he'd lose his job. Seemingly upset, Will frustratedly headed off, leaving Paul feeling even worse.

In closing scenes, Todd met up with Will in the ginnel and paid him for tricking Paul into breaking the helpline's rules. He then revealed it's all part of his plan to get Billy to disapprove of Paul and ultimately split them up.

Will his plan succeed or will Paul and Billy's relationship endure his scheming?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
