Coronation Street's Julia Goulding has revealed that Gail Platt legend Helen Worth said she felt like "the new girl" on set after returning to work.

The ITV soap entered a production hiatus during the coronavirus lockdown, and speaking to Digital Spy and other media recently, the Shona Platt actress revealed how the cast have felt about coming back.

"It's funny, as Helen Worth was in the other day and she kept calling herself the new girl because it was her first day back," Julia explained. "Everyone is slowly getting used to it, as and when they're back in."

For someone who's walked the Weatherfield cobbles since 1974, that's saying something.

On the social distancing challenges Corrie faces, the star also shared: "We have a two-metre rule on set which is fabulous. The measures that have been put in place are second to none. It's just so hard to keep two metres apart from Jack [P Shepherd, who plays David], because we can't gossip can we, if we're far away from each other!

"It's been great, and the way the building is set out lends itself to social distancing," added Julia. "We have to bring our own cups in and things. I am getting used to it."

Opening up about how she has managed to juggle work with being a new mum, Julia added: "It's not been too bad – we're very lucky. Ben [Silver] and I have got my mum and his mum on hand and desperate to look after Franklin. My aunty Linda is looking after him today.

"The organisation now is like a military operation at work [due to COVID-19], you have to know exactly what you're doing and all your times. I'm fairly organised anyway so it's been lovely, really really nice."

Coronation Street currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV, but will return to six episodes a week from September 14.
