Coronation Street and Emmerdale will return to airing their full slate of weekly episodes later this month.
ITV confirmed today (September 2) with a new trailer that the soaps will resume double bills from Monday, September 14 for the first time since the pandemic halted filming earlier in the year. There will be a preview next week when Corrie airs an hour-long special on Friday, September 11.
The timing for this expanded scheduling for Coronation Street is timely because storylines are beginning to take shape for the soap's 60th anniversary celebrations in December.
While some "Hollywood spectacular elements" have had to be scrapped for the Corrie anniversary, ITV has promised that some dramatic moments are on the horizon for the residents of Weatherfield.
Viewers can expect to see the unusual bond between Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) and sex worker Nicky Wheatley (Kimberley Hart-Simpson), while Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) develops bad blood with Kevin's sister Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney).
Abi's recent relapse also threatens to drive a wedge between Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and Carla Connor (Alison King), as Peter is determined to support Abi.
