Coronation Street star Kimberly Hart-Simpson has revealed she missed out on a role in the soap 10 years ago.

The actress plays newcomer Nicky Wheatley on the ITV soap but speaking recently, she said that her first audition for the show took place almost a decade prior.

"My first ever audition for Coronation Street was probably about 10 years ago, when I'd just finished drama school," she told Inside Soap.

"I completely over-acted!

"I was so hammy because I couldn't understand the difference between doing theatre and TV.

"But with the role of Nicky, I only auditioned once – I just walked into the room and thought, 'I'm having this one!'"

She added: "It was great.

"I felt really powerful and happy when I was in there. Maybe that's why I ended up getting the role because I was so relaxed about it. For the first time, I knew my future happiness didn't depend on getting this one job."

Nicky is currently playing a vital role in helping Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) recover from the tragic loss of his wife Sinead Tinker.

However, as things take a creepy turn, viewers will have to wait and see how the storyline pans out.

Coronation Street currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
