Coronation Street spoilers follow.

After being rushed to hospital last month, Coronation Street will soon diagnose little Oliver Battersby's severe health problems.

In new preview images available on the ITV website, we see dad Steve McDonald and mum Leanne Battersby in the doctor's office, with a caption explaining that Oliver is suffering from an incurable form of mitochondrial disease.

The spoiler for next week's episodes adds: "As the news reaches extended family members, it brings out unique emotions and unexpected shoulders to cry on."

Mitochondrial disease targets unhealthy human cells and can lead to seizures, hearing loss, cognitive disabilities, respiratory and sight issues, plus malfunctioning of the heart, liver, skin and brain.

Oliver's issues will also affect the relationship between Leanne and her sister Toyah Battersby, who's currently planning on fostering a child with partner Imran Habeeb.

Characters such as Emma Brooker and Nick Tilsley are also wrapped up in Oliver's situation, and these upcoming scenes will feature both of them dealing with the difficult news.

"As he struggles to comprehend the diagnosis, Nick finds himself making amends with Peter [Barlow]," teases another spoiler caption, as Alina Pop is also shown comforting a visibly upset Emma.

Coronation Street currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
