Corrie star confirms disruption to huge Gary Windass storyline

Coronation Street's filming schedule has been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Gary Windass' upcoming big storyline put on ice.

Mikey North's character was set to revisit the storyline of him murdering loan shark Rick Neelan.

Speaking to I nside Soap, Mikey explained: "Honestly, we had some huge stuff planned.

"What we had in the pipeline was going to be a culmination of the past year of Gary’s life, and possible the final chapter of this story.

"I think we were due to start filming it the Monday that the country went into lockdown! I'm hoping we'll pick it straight up.

"A lot was due to be filmed on location and I have everything crossed as the scripts were just fantastic. I was really excited to do it!"

Speaking about Gary's future, he added: "With Rick it really was self-defence – Gary didn’t have much choice!

"The factory roof is a bit harder to brush off I guess Gary never intended to kill anyone, it's just that he's covered it up for so long. That's my excuse, anyway!"

He continued: "I've been on the show for 12 years, and we're heading toward the 60th anniversary – so I’d love to be involved with that if I can be!"

The show's producer Iain MacLeod previously said that Gary's past would come back to haunt him.

"Well, having ridden the storm that ensues at Christmas, Gary finds himself in a relatively stable and happy place with Maria, and then something incredibly difficult happens that throws it up in the air," he said.

Coronation Street currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
