Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Geoff Metcalfe's twisted reign of terror could soon be over, after his wife Yasmeen slashes his neck with a broken wine bottle next month.

The pair have been at the centre of a coercive control storyline since last year - Geoff the controller and Yasmeen his long-suffering victim - but it's looking like his time at the top of the food chain will finally come to an end.

Even if he survives, their relationship will never be the same again.

It all goes down when Yasmeen gets backed into a corner in their kitchen by her bullying husband, and in self-defence she grabs a wine bottle and whacks him with it.

Realising what she's done, Yasmeen helplessly stares at the severely injured Geoff sprawled out on the floor, blood seeping from his wound.

She then dials 999 and informs the operator: "I've just killed my husband."

Will anyone believe that she acted in self-defence, and is Geoff really dead?

Shelley King, who portrays Yasmeen in the soap, weighed in on shooting this particular scene and what challenges it posed for the actors.

"There have been many very difficult scenes throughout this storyline, but just the technical aspect of a scene like this means that something you see that just plays out for three minutes might take the whole day to film.

"During that time you have to concentrate and stay in the moment. Ian [Bartholomew] and I are very close, we are great friends and we understand each other.

"During the day and a half that we concentrated on the portrayal of that horror we had to keep in the moment, barely talking outside the scene."

These scenes will air Friday, May 1 on ITV.
