Coronation Street's Alya Nazir makes an incriminating discovery about Geoff Metcalfe's past next week.

Alya does some digging as she grows increasingly suspicious that something isn't right in Geoff's relationship with her grandmother Yasmeen.

As we've already revealed, Alya heads to the police station next week to report Geoff's behaviour, accompanied by Toyah Battersby for moral support.

Alya also does her own detective work, searching online for any clues about Geoff's life before he moved to the Street.

Before long, Alya has uncovered evidence that Geoff and a past girlfriend were once charged with causing an affray.

Later on, over dinner, Yasmeen nervously confronts Geoff in private, asking him about the fight he once had with a woman called Jocelyn Barrie.

Yasmeen explains that Alya showed her an article about the incident, but Geoff flies into a fury and throws his wife's plate of curry to the floor. Geoff then storms out and tells her not to wait up.

When Geoff finally returns home the next morning, he plays the victim again and tries to make Yasmeen believe that she's the one in the wrong. With their relationship so rocky, Yasmeen suggests they should delay their planned move abroad.

Later on, Geoff warns Alya not to get too excited about the news, vowing that they'll still make it to Cyprus eventually whether she likes it or not.

Speaking about the storyline, Sair Khan – who plays Alya – explained: "Alya needs to be careful not to do something which puts Yasmeen in more danger.

"At the point where Geoff wants to move to Cyprus, Alya is so scared and worried. She fears that Yasmeen is going to be even more isolated and once he gets her out of the country, it will be even harder to free her from his control. She just thinks she has to take the situation into her own hands.

"She feels she has tried the 'softly, softly' tactic but she now believes she has to do the right thing and swoop in and be the hero and look after Yasmeen.

"That backfires quite dramatically with potential dangerous consequences for Yasmeen, because she is so under Geoff's spell that something like this could do a lot of damage."

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Wednesday, March 18 and Friday, March 20 on ITV.
