It's amazing to think that Coronation Street will have been on our screens for 60 years next year.

And bosses no doubt have big plans to mark the very special occasion, as star Mikey North (who plays Gary Windass) has teased that something "exciting" is in the pipeline.

"The first one I did was the 50th anniversary," he recalled of the soap's last big anniversary. "I was fine with that, I felt alright, probably the naivety of youth, but the last one [in 2015] I was bricking it, I really, really was, and I didn't have much to do at all.

"I always say to Tina O'Brien, what she did in the last live with all the stuff with Callum, to carry that intensity and that performance in front of that many people live and still hit your mark and hit your camera, hats off to her, it was incredible."

While he remained tight-lipped on what will happen for the 60th in 2020, Mikey did tease: "I spoke to [Coronation Street producer] Iain [MacLeod] a couple of weeks ago.

"I think he has got plans for the 60th and stuff which sounds really, really exciting, but obviously there's a lot of stuff to happen before then, whether that happens or not I don't know."
