Coronation Street's new producer Iain MacLeod has hinted that Peter Barlow and Carla Connor will reunite in 2019.
The show had been teasing a potential reconciliation between the former couple on New Year's Eve, but it's now been confirmed that this won't be the moment they get back together.
Fortunately, all is not lost for 'Carter' shippers as Peter will face some massive decisions early next year, with Carla right at the centre of it all.
Speaking to Digital Spy and others at a Corrie press event, MacLeod explained: "Obviously with what Daniel and Sinead are going through at the moment, that's going to draw in Peter as the older brother figure. Ken is involved in all of that too.
"Right in the middle of all that, is Peter and Carla's relationship. Peter will be torn between his loyalties to his son, himself, his own dreams for the future – and his love for Carla."
We already know that Carla treats Peter to a boat in the New Year. The unexpected gift needs plenty of work, but Peter vows to sail around the Caribbean once it's restored and he invites his son Simon to come with him.

It's also been confirmed that there's a tragic struggle ahead for Carla next year, as she suffers a breakdown following a deadly roof collapse at Underworld.
MacLeod continued: "Carla and Peter make a mature decision on New Year's Eve that maybe their relationship is going to be forever doomed to fail and they'll make it work just as friends. But then the factory collapse tips Carla's life into its lowest ever ebb.
"Peter reaches a fork in the road. He has to choose between his son, his future and whether he sticks around and helps Carla out of this hole that she's dug for herself.
"I'll leave you to guess which choice he makes, but obviously it will put him at massive odds with his family."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
