EastEnders star Shane Richie has opened up about that cliffhanger ending in spinoff Redwater, which left his character Alfie Moon and Kat's fates ambiguous.

At the end of the Ireland-set series, Alfie flatlined during a brain tumour-removal operation, while Kat was involved in a boat accident, leaving viewers to wonder whether they had survived.

However, during a Facebook Live with OK! Online, Shane confirmed (albeit in jest) that both are fine and in Spain.

"When we were filming Redwater, we knew there was a beginning, middle and an end," he said during the broadcast.

He then joked: "But rest assured everybody, we're still alive and well and running a pub in Spain!

"We're still good. We're alright… I think…" Shane added.

Last month, Shane rejected theories that Alfie and Kat had been killed off, and even suggested that they could return to EastEnders.

Earlier this week, he added: "Hopefully in the not-too-distant future, I'll get a chance to play Alfie again. I do know he's not dead. He's in Spain recovering or he's hiding in Dunmore East!"
