Malcolm’s body has been found. The police think it was a suicide but Josh is not so sure. He is convinced that because he had predicted the death, he must be involved, but doesn’t remember because of his black out. Having tried to turn himself in for Malcolm’s murder, Steph and Natalie find themselves fighting over Josh at the police station. Josh is furious that no one believes that he killed Malcolm. When Malcolm’s father confirms it was suicide, Josh still feels that he should have been able to help both Malcolm and Jane. Holly reveals that the night of Jane’s disappearance, she spoke to him and he told her that Jane had another man. Josh, remembering nothing, is horrified.
Rachel tries to stir up support for her campaign for custody of Ben and Lucy by telling the headmaster that Sam has turned Lucy into a school bully. In her eagerness to keep Ben she accidentally puts his life in danger…Lucy, Sam and Rachel wait anxiously to hear news of Ben at the hospital and an upset Sam vows to be a more responsible guardian in the future. Sam and Rachel admit to each other that they are inadequate parents. After much thought however, Rachel changes her mind and vows to make Sam pay for his father’s cruelty towards her.
Natalie is devastated by Duncan’s departure, but when he asks to return, she goes to stay with Fiona. Fiona reassures Natalie that she doesn’t believe Duncan was unfaithful with Caroline.
Natalie is saddened by Josh’s insistence that he could have hurt Jane during a black out. Later, as he digs a grave for Malcolm, Josh tells Della that he no longer thinks he was responsible for Jane’s disappearance. Della is relieved but it is unclear whether Josh has said this for her benefit, or because he believes it.
Fiona is haunted by strange dreams and is worried that she is tired of having so much sex with Mike. She is worried that she has had so much sex, that she’s lost all feeling in her body. She can’t talk to anyone about it because everyone else thinks they are blissfully happy. When Natalie moves in, she sees her chance to escape from Mike. Fiona is relieved to spend the night at the Harper’s and have a rest from him.
