Dan's depression takes hold and he loses focus at work, piling on the pressure for Zinnie. When she challenges Dan, he snaps defensively at Zinnie but there's trouble ahead.
At the same time, Eileen and Liz feel optimistic about bringing Malcolm home after a hospital review. They excitedly prepare the house and Ellie runs through a mock interview with them, anticipating some of the tricky questions the hospital might ask them.
The next day, they're left stunned following the review- the hospital want to move Malcolm into a specialist dementia care home, which means that he won't be coming home after all.
Back in Shieldinch, the news takes hold of Liz, who has a dizzy turn. Ellie calls Dr Dan who prescribes her medication. Distracted by his own problems, he makes a dangerous error of judgement, putting Liz's life on the line and his career in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, there's tension between Zinnie and Stella following false accusations of an unethical relationship with Dr Dan. Worse still, Zinnie pieces together the truth about the anti-depressants prescribed for Stella, much to Stevie's disapproval. Undeterred, Zinnie vows to do the right thing even if Stella doesn't agree.
Elsewhere, a man in demand, DI Donald proves popular with both Eileen and DCI Grant vying for his attention.
