Double-dosing on anti-depressants, Dan urges a shocked Stella to secretly get him more. He persuades her that it's his only hope to get on top of things, so she reluctantly agrees. However, despite his best efforts to hide his health issues, Zinnie grows concerned about Dan's mood swings.
Later, having read up on the powerful side effects to the drugs, Stella is worried that Dan is replacing one addiction for another. Back at the surgery, she tries to reach out to Dan, offering him comfort. To Stella's surprise, Dan attempts to kiss her, only to be rebuffed.
Unbeknown to them, Zinnie clocks their exchange and misinterprets it as more than friendship. When Zinnie confronts Dan about what she saw, he snaps. It does nothing to put her mind at ease, so she confides in Angus that she fears Dan is crossing a professional line.
Meanwhile, Alan is delighted to have Grace living with him, but Angus and Kirsty aren't so welcoming - believing their houseguest has overstayed her welcome.
Elsewhere, a heartbroken Josie decides to confront her mother. Blaming Grace for stopping her marriage to Euan, Josie is in no mood to listen and is further taken aback when Grace reveals some shocking home truths.
