The Pet Shop Boys will make an appearance on The Archers, it has been revealed.

The duo, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, will feature in Monday's instalment of the long-running Radio 4 drama. The pair will step in as last-minute headliners for a fictitious music festival.


"It's a thrill for us to enter the world of The Archers, the UK's most famous radio drama," Tennant and Lowe said after yesterday's (August 22) instalment (via BBC).

The group recorded their appearance at Loxfest Festival at the BBC's Maida Vale studios last month.

"We're completely thrilled to have secured an iconic British act to headline for us," editor Sean O'Connor added.

6 Music DJ and self-confessed The Archers fan Steve Lamacq will also guest in the episode.

"Loxfest is The Archers storyline we've been waiting for," he said. "As someone who spends a lot of time covering festivals for the BBC, it was one we really wanted to be involved with."

Previous high profile guest stars include the Duchess of Cornwall, cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Moyles and Alan Titchmarsh.
