Shia LaBeouf is back with his own brand of performance art - and this time he's taking it to the lifts of Oxford Union.

Not content with working in a Liverpool call centre and live streaming his reactions to his own films, the actor is now occupying an elevator in the university for 24 hours.

As if getting into a lift with strangers wasn't awkward enough.

The BBC reported that the "arts performance" started at 9am (GMT) this morning. But he won't be alone, as he's brought friends and collaborators Nastja Rönkkö and Luke Turner along for the ride (literally).

And, of course, he's live streaming the event - titled #ELEVATE - on YouTube.

LaBeouf, Rönkkö and Turner will speak at the Union at 8pm tonight (February 19), but before and after the talking they'll be back in the lift.

According to LaBeouf, the Union president invited them to speak after the actor's Liverpool phone line work.

He told students in the lift: "Stuart the president said, 'Do you want to stand in the same spot as Malcolm X?'.

"Who [...] am I to argue with that?"

LaBeouf's next film, American Honey, is due for release this year.
